Why Solar Panels Need a Different Cleaning Process

Solar panels should not be treated like concrete, siding, or roof shingles. Heavy pressure, abrasive brushes, and ordinary water that dries with mineral spots can create problems instead of solving them.

Our solar panel cleaning process focuses on removing visible pollen, dirt, dust, bird mess, and surface buildup while protecting the panel surface, seals, and surrounding roofline. Clean panels can improve light exposure and help the system look properly maintained, especially after heavy pollen season, storms, long dry stretches, or commercial roof dust.

Our Safe Solar Panel Cleaning Process

We start by reviewing access, roof pitch, panel layout, visible soil, and any obvious concerns around the roofline. For commercial solar panel cleaning, we also review building access, customer traffic, panel count, operating hours, and whether the work should be handled in sections. From there, we choose a cleaning approach that keeps pressure low and avoids abrasive methods.

Panels are cleaned to remove pollen film, dust, dirt, bird mess, and weathered buildup. Deionized water may be used where appropriate to reduce spotting. After cleaning, we keep an eye out for obvious visible concerns such as damaged panels, loose-looking components, or access issues that should be reviewed by the solar provider. Rain can rinse loose dust, but it usually does not remove dried pollen film, bird mess, or stubborn buildup the way a careful cleaning can.

Austin did a fantastic job! He pressure washed my driveway, sidewalks, tops of the stacked stone flowerbeds, two wood privacy fence panels, stone steps, deck, deck chairs and brick/tile. He even checked out a possibly clogged underground pipe that drains the downspouts to my side yard (luckily, turns out it wasn't clogged and the water went right through). Will definitely use Clean Defense Force again. Thank you!

Common questions

Solar Panel Cleaning Questions

Straight answers about solar panels, estimates, and what to expect.

Most solar panel cleaning starts around $200 and depends on the number of panels, roof pitch, access, soil level, and safety conditions. We provide an estimate before work begins.

Many systems benefit from cleaning after heavy spring pollen, after long dry stretches, or when visible dirt, dust, and bird mess sit on the panels. Frequency depends on trees, roof angle, panel position, bird activity, and the surrounding property.

Rain can rinse loose dust, but it usually does not fully remove dried pollen film, bird mess, or stubborn buildup. If the panels still look hazy or spotted after rain, a careful solar panel cleaning may help.

Yes. We clean visible bird mess, pollen film, dust and surface buildup with low-pressure, non-abrasive methods. If buildup is baked on, access is unsafe, or the panel condition creates a concern, we set expectations before scheduling the work.

Our process is built around low pressure and non-abrasive cleaning. We avoid blasting panels or forcing water where it should not go.

Yes. We clean commercial solar panels when the panel layout, access, safety conditions, and project size are a right for the property. Commercial estimates can often start with the property address, panel count if known, roof or ground-mount photos, and notes about business hours.
